Early Childhood Accelerator
Problem: Millions of kids from low-income families in the U.S. don’t have access to the education, healthcare, and information they need to break the cycle of poverty.
Yet, studies show that early intervention can have long-lasting positive impact for children from low-income homes.
This accelerator, in partnership with Gary Community Investments, supports entrepreneurs developing innovative, scalable solutions to improve the lives of low-income children ages 0 to 5 in the United States. Our goal? Use the assets of Uncharted to get these entrepreneurs the training, mentorship and capital they need to scale their ventures and positively impact 1,000,000+ kids each.
In June 2016, we brought together 13 early-stage ventures, 30 hand-picked mentors, 28 relevant investors, and 11 additional stakeholders and experts, all deeply dedicated to improving outcomes in early childhood development. The week culminated in an Innovation Forum where 50+ diverse stakeholders worked together to identify key challenges in the space and collaborate on potential solutions, as well as an Investor Afternoon, where ventures met one-on-one with interested funders.
Since this program is one year old, we’ve only received one round of post-program data collection. However, here’s a snapshot of one of our ventures, Peekapak. Within seven short months of participating in the Early Childhood Accelerator, they:
- Increased the number of schools served by 360%
- Grew revenues by 253%
- Doubled team size
The company has now impacted over 150,000 lives and reaches children in 90 different countries.
“The most amazing thing about Uncharted is their network of socially-minded, super-powerful individuals who are really open to new ideas and willing to help. It’s incredible to have them on your side, helping you navigate challenges and grow your business. They offer all the right things for any entrepreneur who taps into, and takes advantage of, this network. It’s game-changing.” – Ami Shah, CEO and Co-Founder
